Irish Dancing Display

Otherwise known as a photo blog! The kids Irish dancing school did a dancing display at the Wallingford Bunkfest this weekend. Our kids participated both days, so needless to say not much else was done this weekend. On Saturday Kieran did part of a Riverdance sketch. If you know Riverdance-it’s the scene where the Irish and American tap dancers are ‘duelling’. Well, Kieran and Cameron were ‘chasing’ Lucia off the stage. As you can tell from the photos, Kieran thought this was lots of fun!

After the festival on Saturday we all went back to their teachers for a ‘tea-party’. There wasn’t any tea till the end-but a good time was had by all!

These photos are from today’s display. I’ve been using my new camera-which is brilliant, especially for action photos. Saturday’s photos of Hazel just weren’t that great-but today I caught her in some great shots. These photos aren’t the smiley, perfect ones, but will hopefully give you an idea of how much the kids push themselves, and they can really leap these days. Hazel is 2 years younger than all the other children–but can really hold her own! The whole class did such a wonderful job; we parents were all beaming with joy! And don’t ask about the last photo of Kieran-we all just thought it was very funny!

After they danced today, we decided to walk round the festival. I have to say we all really enjoyed this show the best: Mr. Alexander’s Travelling Show! If you ever get the opportunity to see a show by him-take it! Wonderful!

It was lots of fun to watch. Especially with the added bits. We just had a picnic rug and sat with another family and all just enjoyed. The whole festival was fun and I got to know more about the different style of Morris dancers–I liked the Molly dancers best!

Wow, I love Irish dancing. It looks like your kids are having a great time!

  5. Gina says:

I’m glad you enjoyed the Molly dancing – it’s lots of fun to do ( I was one of the Molly dancers at Wallingford this year). I’ve never tried Irish dancing, though, although I’m waiting for my daughter to request lessons as lots of her (HE) friends seem to be taking it up.

Hi Gina! I chatted with one of the younger Molly Dancers–and she explained the history to me. I think it’s the actual story behind the plow boys that made it more interesting to me–and the kids liked your costumes best!

The Irish dancing is really wonderful–and if you live near the Wallingford area–their teacher is the best!
