Hazel & Kieran!!
The kids went to their class feis this afternoon-and were very victorious. Hazel was a wonderful big sister this week and coached Kieran through his two dances every day. He’s been getting very confused with his steps-and needed the extra practice.
Here are the kids before the competition:
Hazel placed 4th for her reel, 3rd for the light jig, 2nd for the hop jig and 2nd for the Champion reel!!! We were extremely proud of her. Hazel was in the biggest group today-21 other girls were in her division. The girl who won overall has been dancing for 2 years longer than Hazel. The main judge sought us out after the competition to compliment her and said he’d never seen such a beautiful dancer! He said he’ll look forward to seeing her progress in future feis’s.
Kieran-well let’s just say practice really helps! Kieran was in a group of 6 dancers and so had better odds at winning. But as he was getting so confused during the last few weeks, Hazel’s coaching really made a huge difference. I asked her to work on his reel with him, figuring it was the one he could perfect. He did. He placed 1st for his reel, 3rd for his hop jig, and 1st place for the Champion reel!
Hazel’s teacher had bought a gift for Hazel-which really took me by surprise. She had bought it ahead of time-and only had the one gift to give out-so we were very honoured! Hazel is the proud owner of a Barbie Irish dancing doll. Not that Hazel has ever gotten into Barbie-but an Irish dancing doll is better than a medal to her.
Here are some photos of the medal haul–though one of Kieran’s medals isn’t in the photo.
We were also the winners of one of the main raffle prizes! Meet Max!
